EU - Central Asia Young Leaders` Conference

Terhi Hakala
The EU Special Representative for Central Asia

"Dear Young Leaders!

I am delighted to welcome you to our conference!

This regional event is a vivid example of the close cooperation between Central Asia and the European Union. As young leaders in various fields—civil society, academia, media, and government—you are playing a crucial role in shaping the future of our regions, and I am pleased that we have brought all of you together.

Cooperation between Central Asia and the European Union is intensifying. High-level meetings and several regional events have taken place, and last year a joint 'roadmap' was adopted to work more closely in five key areas.

Today's conference places significant emphasis on the sustainable management of water resources and strengthening collaboration in this sphere. We will focus on these topics today.

Water management is not just an environmental issue; it is the foundation of our economic and social stability. We are facing major challenges related to water scarcity and climate change, and since water knows no borders, it is imperative that we address these issues together.

Your voice as young leaders is vital not only for shaping innovative but also practical and inclusive solutions.

There are over 100 young participants at today's event. This diversity is our strength! Each of you has brought unique ideas and experiences that will enrich our discussions and help find practical solutions to complex problems.

Thank you for your participation, and I look forward to an exciting and productive conference!"
